Italian company Aqua Technologies, led by Cristian Anelli, has entered the high-end DAC and network streaming market with their La Scala Mkii Optologic DAC. The DAC features a unique architecture, utilising a proprietary FPGA-based digital decoder and a resistor ladder DAC combined with a tube-based analogue output stage. Aqua's approach differs from traditional ESS or AKM IC-based DACs on the market, with no digital filtering in the product. While this bold approach aims to deliver accurate music reproduction, the question remains whether it meets Aqua's high standards.
